Halloween TV appearance

Today I went on the KSL Studio 5 program again. Since it was Halloween, I made a festive fun meal idea. I made soup bowl out of biscuits baked over an inverted cupcake pan, and then filled them with chili made in, what else? A slow cooker!

Here I am with Brooke, one of the co-hosts of the show!

What I cooked in the slow cooker this week?
Chili (Pg 7 of 101 Things to do with a Slow Cooker)
Rump Roast - Sunday dinner
and a lot of experiments you might see in a new book, or on the Slow Cooker 101 Website!

Home Show Fall 2007

Here I am with HGTV's Designed to Sell celebrity carpenter, Brooks Uttley.

On Friday night, It followed Ham on the Street star George Duran. Then I posed for a picture with him.
These last few weeks have been busy, both with teaching classes at Maceys Grocery Store, and getting ready for the Deseret Morning News Fall Home Show.
I taught 3 classes this year, one Friday night, and 2 on Saturday. I met some more celebrities both from the Food Network, and HGTV. There's some pictures below.

Things I cooked in the slow cooker the last couple of weeks:
Honey wheat bread
Hot chocolate
Lemon Cheesecake
Chili with Beans

Slowcooking with Larry H. Miller

This week I did an slowcooker presentation for members of the Larry H. Miller group, at his highrise building on 94th South.

They asked me to come and do a lunch and presentation. There were about 20 people there, and I had fun. I took my neighbor Kathy with me to help out hauling all the stuff I needed to give the presentation.

I made Chicken Tortilla soup and Triple Chocolate Cake for them to sample after the presentation. It was a profitable day, and there are now a few more owners of my 101 Things to do with a Slowcooker book because of it!

What have I cooked in the slow cooker this week?
Chicken Tortilla Soup (3 slow cookers full)
Triple Chocolate Cake (2 cakes)

Here is the view from the office of the
Larry H. Miller Group where I did the presentation.

Been a while, hasn't it?

Okay, I admit, it has been quite awhile since I have posted, but this will not be the last you hear of me!
What have I been up to, let me see......I have been busy being a Mom, and have only just survived the summer. Now the kids are back in school (at least part time for the little one in pre-school) and that leaves me with a few minutes each day to work on this blog. I am still teaching classes at the local Macey's grocery store, and have been on TV in the last week, too, on the KSL Studio 5 show. For my appearance on TV last week, I did some recipes featured in my 101 Things to do with Ground Beef cookbook, which is available for purchase on my website.
Anyway, I will try to be better at updating this, and keeping you up to date on what's been happening.

What have I cooked in my slow cooker this week?

Sunday, September 16th: Beef Roast with onions and carrots
Monday, September 17th: 4 Hour Stew (stew meat, carrots, celery and potatoes)

This week as been pretty hectic, what with teaching two church group classes and all. It is always a chore to pack up all the crock-pots I have into the van, drive to the class location, and then unload everything. Often times people from the class with either help unload or load back up, and that is great, but there have been a few crock-pot casualties along the way.
This week what I have been focussing on is to get my foot in the door with one of the many Home Shopping Networks, to see if they would be interested in carrying one or more of my books. Personally I would like to see at least the 101 Things to do with a Slow Cooker book sold, but beggars can't be choosers, and any publicity would be great!
I have submitted some applications, so I guess time will tell.

Today on the radio the DJ asked if there was something that you had a "plethora" of, and to call in. So I called in. When I got on the air, he asked what I had and I told him "crock pots". He asked how many I had, and I told him 17. He was pretty amazed at that. He asked if I cooked, and so I explained that I write cookbooks. He then asked me how many I have had running at one time. I told him that once I had 11 going at once, when I was doing a show and needed lots of samples. That blew him away! He wanted to know just how good the house smelled! He then asked how fat I was!!! He said that he would be HUGE if he had crockpots cooking all the time at his house.
Anyway, it was pretty funny to me at least! I think I will send the DJs a free copy of the book, and see if that generates any free publicity for me!

So this is my first book, that I co-authored. I am teaching a class to a Relief Society group in Sandy, Utah tonight. I often teach classes covering the basics of using a slow cooker (crock-pot). I take along most of the 14 slow cookers that I myself own.

Funny story: When my huband and I got married we got 7 slow cookers as gifts, and ended up returning all but 2. Now I am up to 14--all sizes, shapes and colors, and have even had 11 full and cooking at a time before!

Anyway, during the classes I teach, I go over some hints and tips for using a slow cooker to cook meals, and bring along yummy samples of one of my favorite recipes: Triple Chocolate Cake. Yes, you can do cakes in a crock-pot!! If anyone reading this is in Utah, and would be interested in having me do a presentation, you can contact me thru my website, www.slowcooker101.com

Welcome!

Okay, so I am new to this whole blog thing, but giving it a whirl. I wanted to create this and have a chance to let people know what is happening in the world of slow cooking. I have a new website that my husband is building for me. Check it out! It is called Slow Cooker 101 and basically it is a platform to sell my cookbooks, but also has a really cool free monthly recipe page,
as well as information about my four books. Check it out and see what you think. There is a page for visitor comments (the contact page) so let me know what you think about it!
